I have a 2007 Silverado (Classic) with 151k. I did a recent front brake job where I replaced the rotors and pads with Brembo pieces. Love the brakes now, but it appears a new problem has come up.

Every so often, when i come to a stop and the steering wheel is turned to the left, I'll hear the ABS engage. It happens at slower speeds, around 5mph or less and it doesn't occur if the wheel is turned right.

I haven't hooked up my OBDII scanner yet, but the Check Engine Light is not illuminated and all other aspects of the braking are excellent.

I would appreciate any advice.

It sounds like you may have a bad wheel brg as i had something similar happen.

 

the wheel speed sensor signal is dropping out at low speeds. the abs thinks the wheel is locking up ie 0 wheel speed and is activating the abs dump valve. It may very well be due to a bad wheel bearing as previously mentioned or a bad wss harness.

 

agree. wheel is seizing somehow. Bad bearing would do that. Jack up that corner. Place hands on opposite sides of the tire and try to wobble the wheel. rotate the wheel, and repeat. If there's any movement or noise then replace.

 

A bad brg will put the abs sensor too close to the pickup point on the hub and will trigger the abs light. A quick test is to jack up the truck and see if the wheel is loose.

Update. I got both new MOOG wheel hubs installed last night. Lots of fun getting the old ones out. (Rusted solid), but with leverage, penetrating oil, heat and a really sweet swing on a sledge hammer, they came out.

Problem appears solved. No more low speed ABS issues.
