Remote start issues
I have a 2010 Silverado 1500 LT with just over 184,000 mile on a 5.3 engine. About 3 months ago I noticed my check engine light came on after I tried remote starting it and it failed. I went to Auto Zone today and had them run a check on it, it came back as a bad vapor canister so I purchased one and replaced it. The check engine light went out so I tried to use the remote start and it worked twice then the check engine light was back on and remote start was disabled again. I returned to Auto Zone and had them check it again and it was the same results, bad vapor canister. The sales person cleared the codes and said it may take a couple of run cycles to clear up the problem. I haven’t tried the remote start since having the codes cleared. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and what was your solution. Thank you for your time.
if the code was cleared the first time it shouldnt come back on. about the vapor canister, i got I think 2 (maybe 3) from amazon. 1 was ac delco the other was Autozones brand maybe another brand but i put a hand held vacuum pump and put a vacuum on it. the AC delco one was bad out of the box and could not hold vacuum the autozone brand one did. these things are known to be bad out of the box. i would either put a vacuum gauge on it or return it to the store

Thanks for the information I will definitely check that out
liquid gasoline might be getting into the canister which destroys it. That could be a bad purge valve or something. I don't 100% understand this system.

Thanks for the information. Replacing the purge valve will be my next step.
