Default 2022 Silverado 1500 Infotainment Issue

Just got my 2022 refreshed Silverado 1500. Some issues on the Infotainment system that should have been addressed. The biggest is the USB media input. Yes, it works, BUT you have no way to search a specific song or album among the 2000+ songs on my USB drive. I have to scroll all the way through it, very unsafe when driving. No on screen search ability and a voice command wants to play the song through YouTube, Spotify, Apple Car Play, etc. etc. etc., not the on board media. Almost makes it of no value to me.

Am I missing something?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but yes I agree the current set up isn't good. I hate Apple Car Play. All of my music is stored on Windows Media Player (WMP) and Apple Car Play doesn't recognize that format so I have to convert songs/CD's over to i-Tunes and then convert them to MP4 formats. I too, like you struggle with finding specific songs or recording on the current menu. and you are correct, this is not safe for driving. One other thing I noticed, if you turn off your engine in the middle of a song, it doesn't pick up where it left off, it starts the song over again. This is 2022, the system should be more user friendly.

I noticed that too. My 2017 Colorado handled the USB media much better and that was 5 year ago technology. The way the 2022 Infotainment unit deals with local media is very disappointing.

Sorry, but this is incorrect. I already knew this but just for grins I inserted a USB drive with just 10 (yes, ten) songs on it. Behaves the same way. NO search, either on screen or voice and can't scroll while moving. The software as it relates to the USB media is a total POS. Completely useless.

My 2022 LTZ has the new Google system and I really like it. Really nice to have the option to not pay by using your phone. It is my first experience with wireless Android Auto. My wife and I can easily switch between our accounts on the head unit as well as our phones. I think the Apple Car play works wireless as well. I am a Youtube Music user, always used iTunes to get my CD's into a usable format to put on the SD card on my phone. I then changed to Google Music and then Google Music change to Youtube Music. I can still upload CD's, it is the best service for me. It also sucked in all my iTunes music so I didn't have to re-do anything. I just actually started paying for Youtube Music or, I will after the trial is over. It will download whatever you want to your phone sd card so it works even if you don't have cell signal, I just have a massive playlist that shuffle plays. I really like the fact that all this stuff is built into the head unit in the Chevy as well. Don't love that you have to use your phone as a hotspot to use it or buy the data plan through onstar for your pickup to have a cellular data plan so all the apps work. Really nice so ever driver has all the features but, Andoid Auto and Apple Car Play make it so you don't need any of that stuff if you don't want it, it just all works through your phone. Not having to connect a cable any longer is even nicer. I like the Google maps from my phone better, I can view maps in Satellite view. It is also nice if you sign up with the Chevy app and make and online account for your vehicle through Chevy much like the Honda Owners club system you get so many rewards points you can actually pay for a lot of months of the data plan for your vehicle if you want the apps and everything to work and be up to date on the vehicle system. I haven't even tried connecting the media in the slots so I don't know how it works. You can use YouTube music for free as well. I just wish you could use any app on your phone.

Someone at GM may be listening to the people here.

There is this device out now called “magic box” that is supposed to unlock your infotainment system so that you can access the same apps you use on your phone. Supposedly it allows you to play videos via YouTube and everything else. I haven’t tried it due to the price point ($400 I think) but if the price was about half that I’d try it out.

I just discovered an app called Audiowagon. I found it in the list of apps available for my Silverado in the Google play store. It fixes these problems. It allows a voice search. It is a sorry state of affairs when GM sells me a $55K vehicle and has to rely on a third party developer to make some of the entertainment software useable.
