Default '81 Camaro making an odd noise

At about 1500+ RPMs Im getting a rattling like noise thats sounds like its coming from the trasmission, Thought maybe the bolts on the flywheel had backed out and were loose, but thats not looking to be the problem. It will make the noise in park, or any gear as long as its above 1500 RPMs. Any ideas?

Sorry I was gone so long, I was out of a computer for awhile

My odometer is messed up so I am not sure, the motor is a rebuilt though, with roughly 1k on it, thats why I figured it may have been a main from not wearing it in properly, but people ive talked say it most likely is a cracked flywheel, it will look fine just looking at it, but once you get it spinning it will start rattling, so my next step is to pull it out and actually see if its cracked. I really hope its a cracked flywheel and not a main.

I would double check the cat like Suzuki-Guy said, is it a rattle or a knocking noise?
I had a knock that made me convinced that I had spun a rod bearing so I dropped the pan and replaced them all just to find it was the cat after all. Sure is easier than changing the main.

Thanks for the suggestions, now I've got a few more things to check before I jump to replacing a main.

Next step is to find the time, been quite busy lately

I think I had the same kinda noise from my Caprice....it turned out to be the flex plate (AKA....flywheel). Couldn't "see" any cracks until I pulled the tranny...the freekin thing was covered in spider cracks....it now resides on my wall....it's quite a conversation piece...when you put a light behind it...it's QUITE something!
If it is the flex plate...get it replaced ASAP.....the bugger can shatter under load....not pretty!!
