Chevy 400 engine
Chevy 400 (6.6L) was made from i think 1970-1980. A lot of variation in terms of performance.
Looking to buy a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro z28 on craigslist.
The guy put in a 400 engine into this 86 camaro. He took the engine out of a late 70's Chevy truck.
Has shorty headers, a new cam and lifters with 3.55 gears. 700R4 transmission and rearend.
According to many, the best possible 400 engine produces 265 horsepower and tons of torque. The same people say some 400's produce only 170 horsepower, but still tons of torque.
Say this car does only produce 170 horsepower but a lot of torque, what do you expect the 1/4 mile time is. Cuz Im not buying a v8 just cuz its got a loud noise.
With the setup this guy has, is this car fast compared to a camaro with a 5.7L 350 V8. Which would win in the quarter mile drag?

that's a vague question. it depends on the 350 and how its built. there are some 350's that could easily outpower this 400, then there are some 350's that would get beat. realistically, anything under 300 horses isn't gonna be considered fast in the drag race world. at best, you might get 15 seconds with 170 horses. the high torque will help with a great launch and acceleration, but at the other end of track, it'll be horsepower needed.
