Default 305 sbc AIR tubes removal

Dear all,

Is it possible to take out only AIR tubes to headers from "smog" pump on 305 small block chevy, plug the holes on headers of course... Maybe somehow "bypassed AIR pump" ?

Thanks

B.

Yeap ! Why not get rid of the pump too? Sure you'll need a new belt, but getting rid of SMOG pumps make me feel very good.

And what about some possible problems? Backfiring for instance...

I never encountered that issue. First A.I.R. pump I chucked in the garbage was the one on my fathers old Chevrolet 1969 C-60 366 cubic inch motor. It DID backfire with the smog pump installed (too many smog pumps in fact as they did last long in dust) all the time, It hardly ever backfired after that. The AIR Diverter Valve was always going bad too on that old truck.Spent lots of money on that system before I pulled it.

Awesome... N what about harness connector? Just unplug it and leave it be? Can't be a problem with ECM?

Never pulled an A.I.R. pump with ECM wires, to be honest. You might try pulling that off first to see if any codes show, however. If not, I'd yank the thing off. If so there may be a way to bypass it. Maybe leave the plug receptical on, zip-tie it down and pull the air pump off.

Yeah, we shall see... maybe some type of resistor can solve it.. I guess I don't need that smog pump elimination pulley cause that piece of garbage has its own separate belt...

I found somewhere on the other forum that "early" models with OBD1 (which is mine) don't throw a code.. but those with OBD2 actually did. But as You and I said.. The easiest way is just to try unplug it.. I'll try that tomorrow..

Let me know if it works. Looks like you got lucky with an old Vee belt turning the A.I.R. pump. Won't even need to buy a shorter serpentine belt!!

Yeah, I'm so glad I don't need to deal with that delete pulley and new belt... So.. I unplugged those two connectors today and It doesn't throw any codes, so i guess I'm lucky two times!
