Default 2000 cavalier fail emission test with new cat

Hey anyone have any idea what to fix with high NOX ? have replaced the cat. the car doesnt have a EGR, any idea what the car does instead of having an EGR? i was told it that it has a EGR port built into the head is this true? if so can it be cleaned easily?

thanks

What kind of emission test is this. Are they actually probing your exhaust or they just plug in the OBD.

it is for the Drive Clean Test in Ontario Canada, they test tail pipe emissions, I now have a conditional pass and have two years to get this engine to pass. I still have no clue as to what the engine does for a EGR, cant fine any info anywhere

That may be your problem without an egr (exhuast gas recycle) valve could be unburned gas into the exhaust. Did your car come with it originally? If not, you might be grandfathered. No nothing about Canadian emission laws.

This missing EGR, is it Canadian thing? The 2000 LN2 motor should have a linear EGR valve (takes 5-wire electrical connector) on top, right rear of the engine.

it has no EGR, the Haines Manual also states that in the EGR section. But the motor must do something with the gasses. Could it have a drilled port in the head with an orfice to regulate flow? has no one come across this on their engine? I guess i would have to take the engine out to find out but i was hoping to find out more info?

That's bizarre. What's the first eight of your VIN, if you don't mind?

Sorry, it looks like yours was one of those great experiments. With carefully engineered overlap between intake and exhaust valve openings, the EGR valve can be eliminated. That is if the careful balance between intake and exhaust systems remain intact throughout the life of the vehicle. Any attempt to make it "breathe" better on the exhaust side will then interfere with the engineering.
