Airbag replacement

Hello all,been kinda busy with honeydews and such,my daughter-in-laws' car was hit and her airbags deployed,my question is,can a novice mechanic replace the airbags in her 03 cavalier?also say I go to a salvage yard(if I'm lucky to find them)can I take out airbags(carefully) without them deploying and what else it might take to get this car fixed so I dont hear anymore whining about it?thanks to all

Yeah I'm thinking that if she was hit, the other persons insurance would be footing the bill for the air bag(s), that and any accident that set of the bags had to have done some other damage.
The air bag system has the potential to be a really hazardous repair probably better left to a fully trained professional.. my 2cents

thanks,that's what I was thinking as well (about the airbags) as far as the insurance,I dont know the whole story

Yes they are easily changed. Under the dash is wires with a yellow jacket around them and a yellow connector. These are the air bag wires in every car. Once you unplug that connector the air bag is disarmed. Through the back of the steering wheel there will be a bolt on each side holding the air bag in. The bolt most likely will be a 7mm or a inverted torx. Once the bag is unbolted unplug the yellow connector on the back of the bag. For safety I recommend disconnecting the battery before you start. You will also need what ever air bag sensor was hit to deploy the bag.

I am not sure. All the connectors are the same. If the bag looks the same it should fit
