Default Transmission problems?

When the car is cold, its fine, or in winter, its fine, but when it gets hotter out and the car warms up; when it shifts from 1st to 2nd it'll have like a shutter, you can feel it in the steering wheel along with basically the whole car. It wont really do it when im full throttle. When i "manually" shift from 1st-2nd it wont do it either.

The car has 110k miles. the tranny fluid was changed at about 98k miles.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Welcome to the forum. It's hard to tell without knowing the year and trim level (is it even a Cavalier?) but, in general, the fluid level may be incorrect, leading to foaming, or a solenoid in the transaxle may be going/gone bad. Also, depending on the year, either the MAP sensor or TPS may be out of calibration. It's probably best to take it to a shop.

haha nice guess on the possibly not being a cav, its actually a 2001 saturn l200. umm as for incorrect fluid, i had a GOOD shop do it, so i trust them with that, i may take it to the dealer and ask them to check it. I possibly suspected the TCC solenoid, but wouldnt i be getting more than just this shudder if that was the case? I just replaced the TPS not too long ago cause that was my first thought, and i will be cleaning the MAP sensor in the next week, i dont have much time (college). but yea, any other ideas???

btw, thanks for the response, other forums i've gotten NOTHING.

I thought the SaturnFans forum site was still up. Anyway, the 1-2 shift usually involves a higher gear ratio transition and thus anything funny with the line pressure, or worn clutch pack for that matter, would be felt more. For 2001 I don't think the MAP sensor has any input in the shift logic. A visit to a dealership service department sounds like a good idea.

My cavalier 2.2 TCC solenoid is located on front drivers side at the top of tranny, its a big square plug with 3-4 wires, i am not sure where saturn is located exactly.

i would put my car in gear and car would die, over and over or several times a day...after unplugging the solenoid it wouldn't die, which lets me know i need a new solenoid in transmission, cost was about $30
