Windshield Wiper Delay
My windshield wipers seem to not be working at all on delay - or they take so long that I can’t wait for them to engage. The standard wiper function seems to work okay as well as just going with a one pull down on the handle for one quick swipe. Is it normal for just the delay function to stop?
I have a 1998 Cavalier 2.2L. A couple of years ago the wipers would not shut off when I turned them off until I turned the car off. If I turned the wipers on to either wash the windshield or intermittent and then tried to turn them off, nope...they'd stay on. Had to pull the side of the road, turn off the car, and restart the car plenty of times. A mechanic said it was the relay switch but that I'd have to replace the whole wiper motor for ~$300. I choose not to do that. Oddly though, the problem stopped for some reason.
Well that’s even weirder. I’m probably going to apply some more Rain-X after we get through this snow and ice combo we have out there right now since we have rain later in the week. I just can’t stand them on constantly and hate to have to keep pulling the lever for one swipe.
Hey Im having the same problemm staying on and when I took the coveroff to test the power to the motor with wipers removed everything works well. The high speed works on high, the low spped works on low etc and shuts off.
Recently last year, I replaced this wiper motor had to try twice to set park position finally got that right. So I fiqured maybe the nut came loose, nope solid and the wiper mechanism carrier all lines up to the motor arm.
Also took apart the wiring harness looking for corrosion throughout wiring harness.. The bggest cuplrit is the ground connector located under the battery tray I removed that and cleaned the connection and made sure the ground was actually grounding. Out right now with now the wipers wont turn off. I hope its just a bad switch but replaced with switch three years ago, since i was just throwing parts at it as a DYI er.Nothing else is making sensem so multiple parts may be the way, but I going to create a sploce in ground to the Blac/white to a better ground by passing the connection dependent under battery tray.

hey a follow up symptom that happened before I recehceked everything on this Easter Sunday
Previously I went thriught he car was with the car. After driving out Naturaly I egaged the wipers, worked fine except now they wont park..
So with th recent not shutting off I removed the cover from the wiper motor that mayb water got into the board. Checked inside for moisture
didnt seem wet. Returned coer and resealed it with new sealant. What was on it was a joke. Checked with connector off all power to the motor incuding
check a good ground. All works put connector into housing an noticed the top two pins, gray and green wire, to the pin to left sits back a bit. Now the wiper works and turns off but im not sure if it works on high.
