Default Ignition Question

Restoring 70 Chevelle. Currnetly in the process of starting engine, but when I turn ignition switch on starter engages immediately and does not stop until I turn ignition switch off. What could be the problem?

Default RE: Ignition Question

With the wires off to the starter, see if you have voltage to the small wire with the key in the run position. if there is you have to figure out why. that little wire should only have voltage when you have the key in thestart position. the big wire should always have 12 volts to it obviously it goes directly to the battery.

Default RE: Ignition Question

After it starts, you might try turning the key back from the crank position, just a little, see if it makes any difference.

I agree with the other person, also check ignition feed to the starter solenoid, with the engine running.

You might check out chevelles.com, there is alot of tech info and forums.
