Default Th350 Issues

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. I have a 1978 El Camino with a 350 and the th350 tranny. A while back I was out cruising and came to a corner. I had some friends in a vehicle behind me so I put the hammer down and kicked the back end out on the turn. Everything was fine until I straightened back out and started accelerating. With no warning it was like it was out of gear. No noise or anything. Now it doesn't engage in any gear, including reverse. I don't have a real great spot to work on it so I thought I would do some research before diving in. Any advice would be appreciated!

Does the gear shift, shift? Can you be more specific as to what was done prior to this?

Also, are you sure this is in the transmission, not differential?

Yes, the shifter still moves freely through all the gears. I suspected the diff at first too because of what a previous owner had told me but the driveshaft doesn't spin which it should if it was just the differential, correct. As far as prior info, I don't have much. I've never done anything beyond fixing a busted line. I've been told there was some sort of shift kit installed but I don't know what type or brand. It's never shifted on its own very well so I've always ran it manually, which I suspect is a symptom of the vacuum modulator going bad. If that went out completely would it cause this?

Shift kit was installed when it was overhauled, that isn't your issue as what it does is set shift points ect. Won't be vacuum as it won't go into reverse. At this point, I'd drain it, drop the pan and look for something obvious inside.

I think that's what I'll do. That sounds more enjoyable than dropping the whole unit right away. Thanks for the input!

Hey I know this ain’t for trucks but i’m getting kinda desperate. My drive shaft the yoke will not come out so I can replace the shift shaft seal on which is leaking and not sure what to do about it have put both in neutral and doesn’t even budge a bit.

Hello. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or if I should have started a new thread, so sorry if I have stepped on someones post.
I'm in the process of re-assembling my TH350 transmission from a complete rebuild. I'm having problems with the SAP41232 bushing that is pressed into the stator-support" for the pump shaft. Before I press it into the shaft I can loose fit it fine. It slips over the shaft without any issues, but when I press it into the shaft and try to reassemble the shaft onto the "stator-support center bushing" it binds up because it seems that it is compressed into a smaller diameter. The old bushing that was on the shaft was a GM part but I can't see the GM part number. Is this a problem with after market bushings that might have a wall thickness that is thicker, thus when pressed in, the inside diameter is smaller than the shaft that it has to slide over? If anyone know what the GM part number might be I would appreciate it. Or if there's a trick to get these after market pieces to work please let me know. Thanks Daryl (SAP 41232 part number)
