Default Wiper motor for 1984 El Camino (where and what to get)

I have a 1984 El Camino Choo Choo and I think that I need a wiper motor and related washer pump. I have searched many places and found several different numbers that claim to fit my vehicle but many are different thus I am confused. If anyone can give me the original GM number or better yet, point me to the motors that will fit my vehicle it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Don

Thanks again and if you were on the other side I would buy a drink this winter as we will be in Naples.

What’s going on with the wipers that makes you think the motor needs replacement?

Also, whereabouts in Iowa? I live/work in the Des Moines area.

Well, when the wipers are set to "low" they work as normal but when I try "high" they just go up and down a couple of inches. Also they do not work on "delay" and the washers do not work nor do the turn the wipers on. This problem would well be in the switch as it appears that someone has messed with it before. I have attached a video that shows the motor when the wiper are on. The fist part of the video is when they are on "high" and the second part is when they are switched to "low". You will be able to see the difference in the video.
I am down in Farmington, IA which is in the extreme southeast corner....two miles from Missouri and about twenty miles from Illinois. Des Moines is about two hours and fifteen minutes from us but we do get up there now and then.

Don

Sorry, but the video did not go through maybe there is a size limit. It was in mov format which should have worked.

Okay, I gave up on attaching the video so I put it on Youtube at

Yeah that’s definitely a motor issue - I suspect a gear has chipped/broken teeth in one spot, so it begins to work normally at first until the gear rotates around and the damaged teeth cause the “skip” once per revolution. A worn bushing or shaft might have a similar effect.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s possible to disassemble and repair it, though sourcing parts may be a challenge.

I’ve never been to/thru Farmington but I used to drive a truck on 34/163 to Peoria, IL and back on a daily basis. The whole SE quadrant of Iowa is much quieter than around here.

I appreciate your expertise but just to make everything clear for sure I want to emphasize that the first part of the video when the it is not working correctly is when the switch is on high speed but when it starts working correctly is simply because we have switched the speed switch to low. If it was a broken gear tooth it would seem to me that it would fail on both speeds not just the high speed. Your opinion would be appreciated.

I understand it’s only a high vs low speed issue, but the relative difference in speed/load could be enough to cause the defect to only affect high speed operation.

Have you tried disconnecting the linkage and checking high speed operation? If it’s still there, it’s definitely a motor problem - if not, something in the linkage is the problem.
