Default 2010 Colorado w/2.9L

I am putting this in for my brother who is having some issues with his 2010 Colorado. It has the 2.9L I4 in it. According to him, it has recently started making a noise soon after startup, when you put it in gear and start to move. It sounds sort of gravelly and only does it for a couple of seconds. He brought it to the dealer, they acknowledged it but it didn't last long enough to diagnose or find out where it is coming from. Initially he thought it was something loose under the dash. Would this be engine or transmission related? Last fall, he was loosing antifreeze and found the oil all milky. The dealer found a cracked head and also found that the hydraulic time chain tensioners were all messed up and the nylon chain guides we really chewed up . A lot of parts were replaced and the car ran fine from the fall. Now this, any ideas or are there any known problems with this motor?

Hi Frank3,

I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties your brother is experiencing with his Colorado. Unfortunately, I am not a certified technician and I'm not properly trained to offer technical advice. I understand that your brother's vehicle has been to the dealership in the fall for other concerns and it is best to have his current concern diagnosed as well. I will be glad to look further into your brother's concern and contact his dealership on his behalf to assist with setting up an appointment for a proper diagnoses. If any extra help is needed please have your brother send us an email to socialmedia@gm.com referencing his concern. I look forward to hearing from him!

Thanks Kristen, I've talked to my brother and he said the dealer said something along the lines "Well you have a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and it is currently running, only problem is it makes a noise". Isn't the point of all this to REPAIR the problem BEFORE the engine grenades itself?

Update - my brother spoke to the dealer and finally got through to them to look at the engine before the noise turns into a blown motor. I will add more updates as things progress.
