my engine fan is running all the time
This is my first new car. The fan runs constantly while the car is running, does not over heat, and the heater works fine. My Chevrolet dealer told me it was the coolant temp sensor($42.00), so I replaced it. No luck! What is the solution to this problem? Please help!
I had a chevy repairman non dealer check out the code P0597 thermostat circuit stuck, open. he advised to have the dealership replace the thermostat and water pump that's what is causing the problem. Apparently GM sold a bunch of cars with bad water pumps and they won't recall the vehicle for it since the w.p. is covered under the power train warranty.

So this thread has been open for over a year, dozens of different owners have posted the same problem and you see after a few months, Chevy moderators just stopped following this thread.
I bought my new 2012 Cruze from a Savannah dealership in Sep of 2011, my 3yr/60K B2B warranty expired last year with only 21K miles on the car.
I am now experiencing the same issue of the fan on turbo without an elevated engine temp. I am very adverse to going straight to a dealership with check-engine light problems for no apparent reason. So I took my car to a local mechanic (this only cost me $20). We ran the code and voila its a heater sensor issue. This problem is intermittent, but 80% of the time the fan cuts on and stays on for the duration of the vehicles operation. The engine temperature peaks at an average of 220 degrees farenheit, so no overheating issue that necessitates the fan running on turbo.
Can I buy and replace the sensor myself? I don't trust the customer service department here in Honolulu after some of the horror stories some of you have shared. Seriously, replacing the fan motor control board when the check engine code P0957 is clearly a sensor issue?!?
Dear GM: Please act responsibly with regard to this issue, I'm sure your corporate leadership doesn't want any more negative publicity concerning mis-managed recalls..

I'm having the same issue. Yesterday I fired up the car and the fan automatically turned on it was really loud and didn't turn off my entire 50 mile commute. When it was time to go home, same happened and check engine light turned on. 2 months ago I noticed the car was low in coant as there was none visible in the overflow tank. I added per GM specs and the car began to stink like antifreeze. Well yesterday once again I noticed I was low on coolant. Dropped off at dealer they called and said its the temp sensor. I enquired into the loss of antifreeze and they didn't have an answer said they would call me back. Car has 82xxx miles and thankfully I bought the 100k extended warranty, but they are now saying they can't find it... This issue better be fixed I paid good money for this car and a thousand for the extended warranty. i know there are issues regarding coolant loss and the smell of antifreeze, I've read them on the boards countless times.

Hello 2012ecoTom,
I see that you’re having trouble detecting the coolant level in your vehicle and we’d like to apologize for the inconvenience. We’d be more than happy to look into this situation further and contact your dealership on your behalf to work towards a resolution. We can also inquire about your extended warranty at that time. Please send your contact information, VIN, current mileage, and preferred dealership to us in a private message. Thank you and we look forward to your message.

Dear Chevrolet Customer Care
I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze with 78K miles on it. I am having the same issue that it seems all these other Cruze owners are having. The fan stays on constantly and very loud. But the temp does not overheat. Could you please advise me on if this a sensor issue or do I have to replace the water pump and thermostat? Thank you in advance for helping with this matter.
Thanks
Jeremy

My engine light and fan are experiencing the same issue. Can anyone tell me what to do to get this fixed? My warranty is expired also. But, this is clearly a systemic problem. GM should take care of this!
Glad to hear you were able to get this taken care of at the dealership, and at no additional cost to you. If you ever have questions about your Cruze in the future feel free to send us a PM. We're more than happy to help!
Have a great day,
Amber N.
