Default Dome light....

Here is a question that came up that I could not answer....
the driver and passenger side doors... how do they activate the dome light ?
I looked for a normal button ... I am thinking it is wired into the latch possibly ?
any ways received a call today from another VAN guy.. and his Dome lights
are not coming on when either the driver or passenger side doors open......
but the dome light will come on with the side or rear door is opened.
HHHMMMM one would have to know how it is wired in order to
track down the problem... so its odd that both front doors will not turn on the
dome lights.. are they wired threw the head light switch ?

My guess is that it's part of the latch/handle assembly. On Le Moose, the only door that has a traditional jam switch is the rear side door.

That issue you describe is even weirder than mine was. I'd wonder about the rear door, and whether it has the traditional switch, and if it goes with the side door, or the front doors.

Stan
I am not sure I understand....
the rear doors make the dome light come on he says. the side doors make the
dome light come on as well.... the driver and passenger doors do NOT make the
dome light come on.
I was telling Dan if I knew of an issue I sure would have looked hard at the
inside of the door when I had the panels off ... ( replaced the speakers )....
heck I didnt even pay attention that the doors dont have a plunger to
activate the dome light.. lol
just never thought about it mine work.... lol..

Sorry, I missed the rear doors part. I don't know what to tell you.The only thought might be the wires at the hinge area. I had a wire break from fatigue there on Da Wifes Equinox, when it was 6 or 7 years old. In her case, it was a speaker wire, and only the drivers door. I thought it odd that it broke at such an early age, but it's now 12, and the rest of the wires haven't shown any signs of going bad like the one I fixed.

It's probably not the easiest thing to get to, but checking the switch at the latch is the first thing to check, after looking at those wires in the door jam.

Thats what I said to him.. that was my thoughts ..
but isnt it weird that both doors?
only other thing I could think of was if the wires were fed
from the headlight switch.. ( dome light ) that would make since to me
that both front doors would have the same issue...
BUT again not knowing how the dome light circuit is wired just leads
to speculation.. I sure miss ( ALLDATA )... that was my friend for the
longest time...

I'm assuming we're talking about Galladanb? If so, I believe his is an '07? I don't know if his is too old to have sensors/alarms on the doors warning when one is open. And I'm just guessing on how this might work, but in my mind, it should be done this way. So, both the side and rear doors have alarms on mine, telling me one or the other is open. The front doors just sound a chime, but don't indicate which is open. The most efficient way to do this is to run all the wires from the doors through a module that selects the correct alarm, and then in turn, send a ground to the dome light circuit (most likely, the H/L switch, which has the manual switch, and override function). So, I'd ask him this; does an alarm sound if he has the key in the ignition, and he opens the drivers door? Keep in mind that if he's replaced the original stereo, the chimes may not work at all, as they do play through the door speaker.

Thank God, until you lock your keys in. And he won't unlock them for you.

Even though I won't use the OnStar, I spent around $90 to keep that capability, and keep the chimes. I kept the OnStar because it is a cell phone, and the law says that even if you don't pay for service, it still must be able to dial 911.

So, I'd bet this isn't real, but it did show up on my tablet. Look at the bottom right gauge. I was stopped, so no current reading, but the maximum achieved is ....... crazy. 18,052.2 horsepower.
