Default WONT START IN RAIN

Good afternoon from a newbie

I have an 01 express with 240,000 miles runs great, most of the time. I use it a couple times a week.
Lartely if it rains hard it wont start until halfwary thru the next day when the sun is out???

I replaced the cap and rotor and checked the wires... diditn notice anything bad.

It rained most of the weekend here in New England and the van wouldnt start
Even with the new cap and rotor and wiping the inside of the dist.

I went out at lunch and it fired right up with the sun out?????? [8D]

Have i over looked anything ? Maybe something else up front is getiing wet?

Thansk for your help!!!

Hi thanks for the tip

It wouldn't start this morning it was soaked with condensation from the cold night.
I fired it up around noon it started right up, and I soaked the coil... wires... and distributor. While it was running, no change, then shut it off and started it right up.
Its been overcast but no rain only the condensation this a.m.?

any other ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Might want to check the intake. I'm thinking that condestation might be building up in the intake and choking it with water vapor.[/align]

I had a similar problem with my 2007 Express. Twice it was towed to the shop and they replaced a brand new fuel pump. Week later, after all night rain it would not start. Checked the Schreader valve and had fuel pressure, checked the coil and found around 14 VDC in but 0 out. After 5 minutes with a heat gun to warm it up it fired right up and it was raining at the time.

Another possibility is worn spark plugs. Had this happen to my older 95 van. Sparkplugs were old, so the gap was too big. Makes for a weak spark and hard cold starting in humid conditions. Pull a couple plugs and check em.

You don't say where you live but particularly in road salt areas it's not unusual to see the case for the computer corrode and let water in. This causes a no start, or it may start but run erratically and stall when you try to drive.

The computer on these is on the left fenderwell, under the master cylinder. I'd look it over with a bright light and you could try spraying it with water, or just hit it with some sort of sealer and see if it makes a difference.
