Tranmission question
Hello guys,
I have a 2012 chevy Silverado. Single cab, 8ft box. It has the 5.3L with manual 4x4 on the floor. I got the transmission serviced at 43,000 miles and the shop said there was a substantial amount of metal that came out. From what I have been reading people are saying that's just because it was the first service, other people are saying that the transmission is eating itself? Opinions? \
Thanks, Ethan

Any new transmission, automatic or manual has to "break-in" so the first fluid change will have break-in metal as part of the flush. If its a NV-3500 it should have a magnet on the drain plug, or at least my Chevy 1998 K-1500 pickup does, but cant say about a 2012. I would highly recommend using a fully-synthetic,Syncromesh fluid on refill, not any kind of ATF fluid.I use Royal Purple Synchromesh fluid. Expensive, yes, but she shifts as smooth as silk.
Ok I will call them and ask them what they put it. I'm Leaning more towards it just being the break in period. I don't know what they put in but should I add some additive next time or change the fluid again?

if you are not having any trans problems and no dtc are settting….drive it. If it is showing problems...it needs a teardown. If it fails...its needs a teardown. Its the same boat regardless.
