Default What gear oil for a 2006 manual transmission?

I recently replaced my 5 speed manual 2.2l eco tech engine. Does anybody know what kind of gear oil it takes? Also wondering if that is the problem why I can't shift gears after driving about 5 blocks. My temperature gauge bounces as I'm speeding up, barely half way up, then drops to the bottom as I slow down then can't shift gears. I then pop the hood and it's pretty hot under the hood. I can shift gears again after about 5 minutes of letting it sit to cool down. Can anyone help me with what the problem is? Also my speedometer didn't seem to work at all.

to clarify; you replaced the engine not the transmision....and now the trans doesn't shift properly. If yes....were the shift cables removed from the trans

Your transmission needs the synchromesh fluid, not 80-90 gear oil. You could even use the newer Dexron VI synchromesh fluid, if you wanted too.

I'd pay attention to what tech2 mentioned as well. He's a professional tech.
