Default 2000 Impala LS 3.8 Transmission problem?

New problem for this vehicle, usual occasional shift hard, but, yesterday it seemed like the transmission was having a hard time staying in gear. Engine appears to run fine but the vehicle seemed to be jerky.

Any ideas from this lousy description.

I had the same symptoms....Welcome to the club. You're gonna find a ton of info on these transmissions. Get ready.

CEL? If so, my 2003 LS had a P0102 (MAF) and P0742 (TCC Stuck On). When the tranny pan was dropped, abundant metal and burned fluid was baked on the pan. My clutches were badly worn, as were some hard parts.

I had the tranny totally rebuilt. $1342 and $163 for the MAF....(but I'm still throwing the MAF code)

As usual, YMMV.

I drove it a again this morning and wondering if it could be the fuel pump. My fuel gauge has not worked for a while and if I am not accelerating it seems fine. Mechanic had told me in past that if fuel gauge is not working then the fuel pump could eventually go out.

I don't think the fuel pump would cause a slipping transmission. Do some searching on the 4T65E transmission.

tons of problems with these transmissions.. Why the problems were not rectified when problems plaged these transmission in year 2000. The same problems kept happening on models way higher than years 2000. Mine was a 2003 ls impala with a 3.4 liters and gess what. Same problems. I hope that my 2009 uplander will not follow the same route otherwise this is it with american vehicle for me. I will buy japanese or corean vehicles instead.

THe wife's 07 honda civic w/ 45000 miles is in for a head gasket today. Honda's aren't
that great. I had pair of 4-runners in the 90's and absolutely hated them! Overpriced
junk. Thought i was in heaven when i bought a 98 tahoe back then. Still have it, been
demoted to a farm/ranch vehicle, but we can't break it.

It could be a wheel velocity sensor...Much less expensive to fix..Have someone check the code..

Turned out to be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Had replaced in 2007 with a remanufactured part, this time the same mechanic replaced with a new part.

i had some similar issue in my honda 94 civic. these problems seem to happen overall in many vehicles regardless of the maker. however i was able to fix mine quite soon and was a bit inexpensive than i had thought.
