Anyone Have an '08 Impala SS?
I am replacing my '03 Impala LS and took an SS for a ride last night. Wow...that's some zip.
The one thing that concerns me is the "feel" of the8/4 change. I was running on the interstate doing ~65, revs at ~2K and I felt a "bump" and saw the revs drop some. I was surprised and tried this several times while watching the display and determined this was occurring when the 8 to 4 cyl selection was going on. The sales guy was kinda surprised and I told him he had to have the service people check it out and let me know if this is standard for a Chevy with AFM before I would consider purchasing (even though they made me a decent offer).
I talked to him today and he said he was told that it gets smoother with time (and miles). Service guy was out today and was unable to check it over.
So my question(s) is(are):Is it typical to feel a "bump" when the AFM switches and, if this is to be expected, does it "smooth out" over time (or do you just get used to it)?
TIA

I have a 07 SS and when it goes to 4 cyl mode the only way I know is by watching it on the instrumment gauge. Tone of the mufflers change sounds cool. I don't think there was any change from the 07to 08. If there was let me know I think the price stayed the same also. I have every option was $32,600
I agree with the above poster.
I have an 07 with the 3.9 V6. Not an SS, But it does go from 6 to 3.
and it is so smooth and seemless, you dont know it happens unless you see the 6CYL / 3 CYL message on the dash.
Tone on the V6 alsois pretty quiet. I though I could tell but so far Ivebeenwrong more than right in reagrds to which mode it is in....
so it is seemless. and you cant tell.
id say therewas alittle problem with that new SS car.
For us, When new- it was seemless and still is.
so I dont know about that it gets smoother line the salesman told you......
id drive another SS, even a V6 to compare.

Thanks for the replies.
I took another SS for a ride and the "bump" I felt before was not there. So you may notice that my signature has changed slightly. I am now looling forward to picking up my new SS (black on black and all options) on Tuesday.

Just picked up the SS tonight. What a blast. It has been awhile since I have had a car that is this exciting to drive.
There are a few things that I would like to see different, but overall...well I am looking forward to the drive to work in the AM.

Congrats!
I think you'll have great fun in your daily commutes. It is a great sleeper car. Youwill surprise many unsuspecting people thatmay challenge you to a pointless race. Or just blend in with the crowd in comfort. You decide
!
I have an '07 Black/Black with all the options and am very pleased. Plus the insurance rates are great for this car.
The first one you drove with the DOD glitch was the first I heard of anything like that. Mine is absolutely unnoticable. In fact one of my friends didn't believe that it was working until I showed him the monitor page where it says 8 or 4.
Have fun!
