Default 97 Blazer Ignition Switch/Solenoid Issues

Hey all

I've got a 1997 Blazer 4x4 (auto trans) with 170,000 miles on it. About 2000 miles ago, I lost first gear and OD and my Service Engine Soon light came on. I quickly deduced (I thought) that the problem was in the key switch supplying power to the solenoid(s). Would have fixed it sooner, but I didn't have the cash. Anyway, a couple of hours and $100 later I had the new harness installed. I drove it up and down the road a few times, and my trans was shifting good as new. About an hour later I was heading into town, and I lost first and OD again and got a new SES. This occurred about three miles into the trip.

I presume that the problem cannot be solenoid-related, since the shifting worked perfectly after replacing the ign switch, even though it was only working temporarily. Has anyone ran across something that could be causing the ign switch to repeatedly fail?

Any help is much appreciated, since this is the vehicle my wife drives every day, and life is easier when she's not in my ear. lol

Welcome to the forum. The ECM can go into the limp home mode for any number of reasons. Get it scanned for trouble codes and go from there.
