Default Clutch Pedal Broke 99 s10 help please!

I have a 99 s-10 2.2 and the clutch pedal broke off of it's pivot point under the dash and I am trying to find out if all of that is welded or pressed together, no bolt or bolt head fell down. So do you have to take the whole dash out and remove that whole housing round the steering column? Has anyone had this happen to them? I have never heard of this happening. Thanks for your help.

I think they just have an "axle" between the brake and clutch pedal. They probably have a clip on each end holding the clutch or brake pedal on. What's probably happened is the clip has broken or came out and the pedal came out too. At least that's how they used to do it in older standard shift vehicles. Just take out enough under the dash to get to it and it's probably not a difficult fix.

Did you ever find out how to fix the clutch petal? I have the same problem on my 99 S10.

Default This is what I learned about the S-10 clutch pedal.

I made these slots so I could hold the two plastic parts out to make installing easier. Also i can use them if I have to get it apart if there is a next time.

These are the parts that compress into the clutch petal

This is the assembled petal the wires are in holes I drilled into the plastic parts to keep them in while I assemble it. Once I had it in place I pull the wires out and the parts pop out into the holes in the box.

This is the box that the petal hangs in. I spent way to much time trying to get it out of the truck and never did. finally I used a crow bar and pried the pedal out.

This is the hollow plastic part that had not failed yet but nearly as you can see.

It is about 5/8 od 3/8 id black delrin type plastic. If I could have figured how to get the box out I sure would have then I could have changed to a bolt like the brake pedal has.

This is how far apart I got when I realized I was not getting that box out. Just take the lower cover around the pedals out and pry it out.

Someone in one of the forums said that the box could be taken out in 30 minutes. I tried and failed and ended up prying the pedal out and replacing the cheap plastic parts. If anyone actually has taken the box out I would like to see how they got at the bolts. I wasted 4 or more hours on this and could have done it in 2 or less.

Same problem I guess. The little black things that pop out broke as my clutch went out on me. I replaced clutch then noticed pedal broken. Went as far as removing fender making a hole to access the backside of where pedal attaches and ran a bolt straight across to act as a hinge. Then truck acted as if clutch needed bled once I started it. I'd start in neutral and wouldn't allow me to go into gear then if started in gear it would pull as I was starting it and Stahl itself out once I applied brake. So then I replaced the master slave cylinder ( whatever the part that goes through firewall to clutch pedal) I replaced that and still same. So now I've been told the little play I have in the clutch pedal from where it slightly wiggles on the bolt (hinge) is enough to keep it from operating enough to properly bleed. So went to junk yard found an S10 identical to mine, also a 99 and when I looked under dash was surprised that it also being a 99 has a factory bolt ran through where the black plastic and springs broke in ours. So tomorrow I'm taking dash out and replacing the entire brake clutch cast iron housing.i guess and seeing what happens then. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated

I could not figure how to get that pedal box out. If you have one out please post photos from all 4 sides so others can see where the bolts are. As I said above i pried the pedal out and replaced the plastic parts. I did drill and file slots so if there is a next time I can use a ice pick to slide them back and get the pedal out. If i had known that they were plastic and breaking the one was possible it would have saved me so much aggravation. My truck has 218000 miles so while not as good a fix as replacing those parts with a bolt they should out last the truck. but again please post photos of that box I searched the net and could not find good info on what you are going to do.

My first thought was replacing the clutch master and slave luckily I realized that the pedal being loose was the problem so only 25$ for the plastic parts was all I had to spend. I am surprised how much it felt like a soft pedal at first.

John E. The pictures of pedal housing you are asking to have posted will be on here by noon today. Currently I'm not at the garage but have the part and will post as soon as I have the opportunity.
