Default Starting problems

I have a 2000 chevy blazer 4wd 2dr 4.3v6...I had to put a hole in the plastic cover that goes over my port area...i have to pour a cap of gas in there for the truck to start...truck wont start unless i do this...but always starts when i do put gas in the port area. once the truck starts i have no problems with it idling or pickup...I'm assuming my pump and filter is ok cause i'm driving it everyday with no problems beside getting it to start. i'm gonna change filter tomm just for the hell of it...any suggestions...

How long do you let it crank before you say that it will not start. Let it crank for about 10 seconds to see if will start. If it does start then what you have is a bad check valve in the fuel pump assembly. It is letting the fuel drain back into the tank.

Sounds like a problem with the fuel pressure regulator.

I tried to change the fuel filter in the line today and couldn't get it off...Damm press push pull crap and i didn't wanna break it. Chevy i can turn the truck over till the battery is dead. I stop trying to start it...i just put a little gas in and get the damm thing started. I'm gonna invest in a fuel pump and pray it's not clogged jets i guess. Alot of guys have said it's a week pump and it's not pushin enough psi to start. but they also told me to change the filter first also.

It is recommended to change the filter when changing the fuel pump.
