Default what engine & tranny

Hey guys, im new to here so i say hi. anyways i have a 97 s10 w/ the inline 4 5 spd manual. i was wondering what would be a good small block/tranny combo to swap out to make it more ofa performance type truck instead of a cosey coupe. my main concern is displacement. i need to find a monster that would actually fit.

well if you go the a chevy small block you can build it for 350-400 cubic inches depending on the bore and stroke

305 or a 350 either one would be more than enough. Go with one of those, I forget, superglide or turboglide transmissions. My bro has one and he swears by it.
