96 chevy ck1500 w/t Drive gear dont work in first have to manually downshift to 1st
I was at the airport picking up my friend and i was giving it gas and all a sudden it went into neutral but was still in drive and running , its an automatic, i downshifted to low 1 and then it went into first and i got it going then put it back in drive and it works fine overdrive and all. when i stop in drive it goes right back to neutral then i gotta downshift to first again get it going and put it back it works. Would a bad sensor make it do that from being so hot. Not trying to spend alot of money fixing it and putting a new tranny in it if i dont have to. The first gear just dont work in drive i have to manually downshift on the tree to get it in first and it works fine then throw it back in drive works fine. would it be a shift selenoid causing this. Please if anyone knows anything about chevy tranny and can help please?

sounds like it is shot to be honest, what does the fluid smell like? also is the trans fluid topped up? it has to be warm and running while checking if it is topped and smalls burnt and is a really dark red i would say it is toast

no prob, these trans usually go at 275k km (i dont know trans for miles) almost like clockwork, but the way they go is nice, the truck is still mobile, how is reverse by the way? if it takse a while to go into reverse while still cold, that is another indicator
