Default Code retrieval and wheel ??

Just purchased a 2006 Z-71. PO told me the check engine light is on due to the 02 sensor, Is there a way to retrieve the code without a scanner. I thought there was a way on pre 99 but did not know if it was possible.
Also - will stock Chevy 16" wheels from an '03 fit / clear the rotors/brakes without issue or do i need to stick with the 17".
thanks for the replies.

Pre 96 was OBD1, and yes without a scanner. Most parts stores will read the code for you.

Do you have drum brakes in the rear? If you do, 16s won't clear the front caliper unless you grind them down. And yes you need a tool

May be true, but in 05-07 silverados came with 13" rotors up front and drums out back. With these rotors you could only run a 17 or bigger. 16s will work with some grindin on the caliper
