I am having a problem with my brakes. Everytime I brake hard it feels as if my truck starts shaking, then when it gets to a lower speed it feels like my brakes are slipping. Kinda like they engage then disengage all the way to a stop. It constantly has pressure though. It does not disengage all the way. It can still stop fairly well in an emergency though, so I didnt think that my pads crumbled or anything. Does anyone know what this could be due to? Front brakes? Rear brakes? Any help will do.

 

your front rotors can warp and it makes the brakes pulsate like that... sometimes you can even feel the pedal pushing back if it's sever enough!

I also have a 98 and had the same problem.

Rear brakes were shot putting the full load on the front pads.

Had 199K on them so I replaced the drums & shoes & problem solved.

*edit - also had the front rotors turned

 

Have trouble with brakes. 1998 z-71. Pedal goes to floor. New brakes on front, new cylinders on back. Pedal goes to floor and will not pump up.

Did you bleed the entire system after you replaced the wheel cylinders???

 

we have a problem kinda like that. we changed everything brake pads rotors, cylinders, and bleed the brakes and still our pedal goes to the floor. now we are haven a problem with the truck pulling to the right even tho we just got new cylinders.

 

My Brakes are hard to push in when I am trying to stop , and then some times they are fine. Seems to be more frequent.

I have a 1998 GMC Z71 ext cab 5.7 4x4. I've totally rebuilt the rear brakes (springs, shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware), new calipers on front and Master Cylinder. Rear brakes are adjusted to the inside diameter of the drums, bench bled Master Cylinder and bled the entire system numerous times. There aren't any leaks to be found in the lines. Pedal goes to the floor. Pedal is not hard at all but you can feel the ABS pulsating also, front brakes will apply with ease but rear will barely apply if any at all. Brake booster isn't it I know that from common sense nor any vacuum leaks on the booster. Truck was wrecked on front drivers side corner at one point before I got it and airbag was deployed from the steering wheel if that helps any. The truck was a mud toy once upon a time too. Under-carriage was covered and took some heavy spraying to clean dried mud away to replace brakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
