Default 2007 NBS Transmisson Smell ?

Hey Guys, I just bought a new 2007 NBS Silverado with the 4.8 engine, 342 rearend it's the W/T edition with the LS package. well my question is it has 300 miles on it now and i smell something like hot transmission fluid after driving and getting it hot. i pulled a 14ft. box trailer empty about 15 miles tonight and when i get home you could smell that trans fluid even my wife smelled it. the computer said trans temp was 196 degrees is this normal for a new truck? is it just burning off the new ? and what's normal operating temp for the transmission ?

Thanks, Rodney

I would get it in the shop ASAP. The only thing I smelled when my truck was new was the coating of shipping oil burning off the exhaust.

how heavy was the trailor, the 4.8 and 3.42 is NOT a good combo to be pulling with...

Your new 2007 Silverado is designed to tow up o 5,900lbs.

196 degrees F is not in the danger zone yet, but you want to keep the tranny as cool as possible.
I would recommend having a tranny cooler (GM part #19171483) installed if you plan on using it to tow regularly

The hot burning odor is probably just the Cosmoline preservative (that is applied to the undercarriage prior to leaving the factory) burning off the exhaust system and nothing to worry about, it should go away soon.

they are not that hard, but have the GM guys do it so you get the warranty, all you need is a tranny failure and they say 'well you did hte install on the cooler so your fault'..........last one I did was like 190 bucks not much...
