Has anyone been able to "fix" there oil consumption on there Silverado? I've been told that my 3 quarts per 3000 miles is normal per there bulletin #01-06-01-011f. Any thoughts??

This service bulletin is a perfect example of why large companies should be somewhat wary of hiring College Boys with Business Degrees, or individuals who haven't been screened for psychotropic drug use.(Many times they are one and the same.)

In what UNIVERSE, Plane of existence, or mechanical paradigm is the consumption of over 50% of the oil reserve in a motor vehicle engine during it's average use cycle considered even REMOTELY CLOSE to normal?

The morons who released that bulletin should be sentenced to permanently drive trucks with this problem, since, apparently, THEY are the ONLY ones who consider it "normal".

Oh yeah, be sure to change your PCV valve regularly.(@ every 15000 miles)

Long story short, it's a replaceable valve about the size of your thumb on top of your engine. It's designed a lot like a plumber's check valve, in that it allows engine gasses to ventilate.

The point is, when one gets stuck, it's very possible to see the same problem with oil consumption, because stuck shut it generally blows the seal on your valve covers,resulting in a lot of oil going all over the top of your engine.

If it sticks open, oil and vapors pass into the intake, being burned by the engine during (somewhat abnormal, in this event) combustion.

 

my07 chevrolet is using that much too! will the stand behind it then or if its normal im just screwed

 

Mine only consumes a quart in between oil changes, I guess I should be thankful.

 

I guess I should count myself lucky, my fat old 6.0L doesn't have these problems.

I read on another post here that the problem involved some of the Vortec engine parts being cast improperly, somehow, resulting in a oil leak like yours.

But I stick by my original statement. That much oil consumption just isn't
normal, by ANY means. And inter-department memos by bean counters don't repair malfunctioning engines.

Personally, after all of GMs crowing and blathering about how GREAT Vortec engines are supposed to be, I'm a little surprised about their Ostrich Attitude concerning this problem, which, from what I've seen from post histories, isn't an isolated incident...
