Default ignition switch removal

I am replacing the turn signal switch in my 97 silverado buti am having trouble removing the ignition switch to get the top steering cover off anyone have suggestions? thanks

pull the upper cover up enough to get a hook tool to the release at the top of the cylinder.key will need to be in the start position so put the shifter in drive so the starter wont engage.depress the release button and pull the cylinder out.
