Default oil change

i'm changing the oil in my 07 nbs silverado for the first time tonight. anything i need to know before i get under there? this should be an easy truck to change the oil on right?

what size wrench will i need for the drain plug?

15mm wrench to unscrew the drain plug, don't forget to wipe the magnetic tip off as well.
It is very straight forward on these trucks and since the oil filter is mounted vertically you can pre-fill it with oil which will reduce oil pressure pump up time.

there are two 15mm bolts on opposite sides of each other but at the same position where it look slike oil could drain. is the drain plllug the one closest to the filter [nearer the drivers sde]or the other [nearer the passenger side]?

magnetic tip?

yeah its pretty straight forward, just remember ur basic tips for changing oil

me and my dad take a chizel and hammer and punch a small hole in the filter before you unscrew it to prevent oil from spilling on you

That is a good idea about punching a hole in the filter to pre-drain- Damn hundreds of oil changes gone messy- I cant beleive I never thought of that.

Loosen the filter before you punch the hole. You don't want to punch the hole first and not be able to unscrew the filter.
