Default 1999 Surburban Heads

I have an antifreeze leak at the top of the engine, it looks like its at the front of the engine on the passenger side by the front 2 bolts of the intake manifold. What is the easiest way to replace the head gasket? I know if I take it to a shop it will be very expensive.
Thanks in advance

Are you not looking to replace the intake manifold gasket? There was a known problem on 5.7 L engines from 1996 to 1999. I had to have this done on both of my vehicles. Yes, it is costly. On the bright side, neither one has had an issue since.

Good Luck,

Are you saying that antifreeze can leak from the intake gasket?

Yes, I am. When the gasket fails, the coolant can either get into the oil, or leak to the outside. In both of my cases, it leaked on the passenger side of the engine towards the rear. Fortunately, not into the oil.

I had a slow coolant leak on my '97. It was driving me crazy, I couldn't find it anywhere. I read about the intake manifold gasket and took it in to have it tested and repaired. Sure enough there was a pin hole in the back of the gasket, leak fixed. Total cost of repair was close to $800 (he found a couple of other problems while he was in there).

Same here, a 97 Tahoe had the intake leak, you'd think they would have a service bulletin on it. Any competent shop will be able to fix you up, it will take several hours to repair and $600-800 in cost, mostly time not parts….

It cost me $700 for each of mine for the job. I had them replace the distributor cap and rotor since there was so much removed to do the gasket.

Thanks for the info, I thought it was only the head gaskets.
