Waiting since 12/2 for a district specialist to contact me.

Just posting the info. I'm a design engineer myself and an issue like this should have been caught during proto builds...

Location is Central IL, crack occurred just after getting colder temps. Vehicle is garaged occasionally but is not typically (summer cars get the garage lol).

FYI still no contact as of 12/13. Feeling pretty lead on by Erica, so I'm going to call the 800 number in the manual like I should have from the start.
I will also mention Erica's name and that they have failed to come through for me but over have seemed to help the forum.

Also, my parents (both engineers at GM) can't stand that their company's service team is so lax about an issue like this, I know it's been frustrating to them that I keep having issues that their company won't resolve. (or at least is just ignoring even starting to resolve).

I feel you there. I had the same problem. I have to pay $100 to have it replace. My point is when they see there is a problem with thedashboards and the locks make a recall. She says "We are here to addressquestions and concerns of our customers. We have documented your concerns andappreciate your suggestions. “Yeah right. All the complains they have, GMACdon't give lovely damn. That is waist a time.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I don't have numbers to back up anything... but keep in mind there are 100's of thousands of these vehicles on the road, many without cracked dashes, my 07 Tahoe being one of them... You are only likely to see negative comments in the forum so it can skew the opinion that everyone is having this problem...

Chevrolet Customer Service is here to get resolve for customers as best they can... complain all you like but if they were not here, the outcome could be a whole lot worse... Chevrolet Customer Service does not hold the purse strings to GM, they can only do so much...

This is my fault because I should have reported the crack when my vehicle was in warranty. A little research goes a long way.

This old boy is a Very happy GM Owner !!

Cheers !!!
A bump of a post to show the process does work...

I'll bet that the failure affects less than 1% of the trucks on the road. My dealer has seen zero cracked dashes and since I have a very good relationship w/ them, I believe them.

I appreciate the happy owners but whether it's 1% or 80% it's still a manufacturing defect that seems could be dangerous. I think the frustration comes with the process here, some people get Eric to respond and other do not, I fall into that latter category.

Also - GM Customer service seems to just be a way to get local dealer to evaluate the issues and make the call. I actually wonder who these regional people work for, GM or the dealers...

From this 1st time GM owner it's enough to make me not look at another GM product. Between the cracked dash and the "normal oil burn" it's been less than ideal.

I use to think like you more or less. However not only have I had three GM trucks/SUV's with the cracks in my family(none resolved as of yet), I have made it a point to look at every GM/Chevy trucks dash when I walk by in parking lots. I have also seen numerous ones sitting in the used car lots at Chevy dealerships.
A couple of times when I was thinking of buying an 07 and above Suburban and spoke to the salesman, I said I would only consider buying it if the dash was fixed. Amazingly enough most said they would under the limited 30 day/1000 mile warranty. For the ones being sold as is, a couple said if I bought the truck, it would be fixed prior to me taking possession. I never actually tested the veracity of those offers because I bought privately. However it is strange that GM/Chevy seems willing to fix the dashes on their dime if you buy a used car, but not if you are an existing customer who has already purchased one, but have the same problem.

More to the point of your post. I encourage you to go to any used car lot with Yukon's, Tahoe's, Suburban's, Denali's, etc. and not find a bunch of cracked dashes.
Will they all be cracked? The answer is probably yes, but there may be a few exceptions. Of course the few that do not seem cracked might be, but you just need to lightly push down on the areas to see they are there, but just not bad enough yet to show. Others might very well have been replaced, but there is no way for you to know.

Heck there is at least two Youtube videos showing a guy going from truck to truck and they all have the cracks. Maybe I will take the time one of these days and make a similar video because everytime I think of this problem, it just pisses me off that much more.
Mainly because I am a Chevy guy ever since I was old enough to love cars. Yet it reeks of hypocrisy for me to be proud of Chevy in light of all the problems their 07+ trucks have, like cracked dashes, peeling door handles, A/C controls that have the paint come off after a few years, etc.
