This was one of the emails from Amber @ Chevrolet Customer Service.
Robert,

We apologize that you have not heard back from your dealership. Based on our last conversation with the Customer Care Specialist at Tom Benson Chevrolet, the dealership offered to pay 50% of the repair costs. We left them a message, but hadn't heard back from them. I will have Erica try to contact them for a final time tomorrow morning. Please expect to hear from her once she's spoken with your dealership.

Thank you,

Amber N.

Here is the next message from Chevrolet Customer service. They knew the age and mileage of my vehicle from the first communication I made with them.
Robert,

I was able to review your case today. I want to first apologize for the miscommunication. When I initially spoke with the dealership I did ask for the 50/50 split. Your Service Manager said we had to look into it further and see what was allowed. Due to your age and mileage it was unavailable. I do see where the 50/50 split was mentioned to you. However, at this time we are unable to assist with your cracked dash concern.
For the miscommunication on our end, I would like to offer you a $100 Maintenance Letter. In order to receive this letter, the repair will have to be completed. Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

When Chevrolet Customer Service makes a claim # they take all of your info and vehicle so they knew the age and mileage.
Robert,

I was able to create 71-1257244409 for your concern. I will reach out to your dealership now. If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me again.

Default Ouch

"GM has admitted that it was aware of the potential issue a decade ago, but continued producing the vehicles without addressing it. "
I think I will put that 2015 Tahoe purchase on a back burner...for a really long time...

First of all I did not read the whole 113 pages of this thread so if this is a repeat I apoligize.....I seen a video a while back of a guy who worked at a used car lot. Almost every single 07 new body style pickup, suburban and tahoe had cracked dashes. It is a very common problem. The video is on you tube. Search chevy cracked dash.

Plot twist: http://www.autonews.com/article/2014...303109989/1580

Because of bankruptcy protection, GM may now have protection of liabilities from faulty ignition switches that occured prior to their bankruptcy in 2009.

Wonder how much would be applicable to our dashboards, if there ever was a recall or lawsuit, since the design and most vehicles are pre-July 2009?

Just think... if the Feds are too lazy to investigate something that potentially leads to fatal accidents, they sure as heck don't care about investigating GM cracked dashes.

The problem seems to be mostly with people who use their car keys as a substitute for gym weights - in which case I personally think you're an idiot. That said, GM still knew about a problem and didn't bother issuing recalls or offering sufficient notices to owners. Can you fault them? They're in the business of probabilities and rolled the dice. A decade later and it's starting to look like they made the right choice.

Whether we like it, acknowledge it, or not, the bottom line is the design of these dash pieces, and trucks, were built during the careless and haste era leading up to GM's bankruptcy.

The bottom line, in my opinion, is that there will never be a willing recall by GM. Unfortunately I think it's going to end up taking a class action lawsuit to get the ball rolling, which doesn't always yield a favorable outcome. I.E. - Rajina Hess and Kelly Parsons, et al. v. Volkswagen of America, Inc. with the early VW MKIV's and the valence being torn off. I owned both an early MKIV GTI and Jetta. Of course by the time the settlement was reached I didn't exactly have decade old receipts and couldn't claim any reimbursement for paying out of pocket for fixes.

I think the dash situation is just a sucky one, all-around.

I would be happy to get some help on fixing the problems. Understand we are road side mowing contractors I do a lot of advertising for GM and found this form when looking for solutions to the problem.I'm hoping GM will contact me with some direction! we love the duramax and allison, and hope to continue pulling our equipment with them.

Default 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Cracked Dashboard

Hello all,

I just noticed that my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado with 93K miles and sits in the garage most of the time, has (3) cracks on the dashboard. (2) near the airbag and one over the radio. I called Freedom Chevrolet in San Antonio, Texas (this is where I bought the truck) and they told me they know of the issue but that there is no current recalls and that it would cost me between $700-$800 to replace. I am guessing they don't want me to buy a new Chevy truck since I have been debating buying a new truck.

*****UPDATE****** 03/18/2014 10:51 AM

I called Valmark Chevrolet in New Braunfels, Texas and they are willing to do it for $250. Now since they have helped me out I guess I will help them out by letting them do some work on my truck.
