Smile Buying a new SUV

Hello All,

First timer here. I currently own a 2006 Z71 Tahoe with 136k miles. It just now started to leak oil and give me a couple of problems. Being that it is my wife's primary vehicle and what we use to travel often due to my older daughter playing in a traveling basketball team I feel it is time to trade in our current Tahoe and buy a new one. With that said we are looking at a simple 2012 Black (Texas Edition) Tahoe however my wife is also considering an Expedition Limited. Would you all be able to help me out by pointing out some of the pros and cons to each? Is there a reason higher level expeditions are the same price as lower level Tahoe's? We plan to keep whatever we buy for 4-5 years since my daughter will be driving soon and she will be needing a vehicle as well. We are looking for reliability and what is best for traveling very often. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Unless they have made some serious improvements to this body style Tahoe I would recommend the Ford. The fit, finish and interior quality of the Tahoe is crap. I was alway a Chevy truck guy until I bought my 07 Tahoe. With in 5 years the inside on my truck looks terrible and I take good care of it. Dash is cracked, All inside door handle were replace under extended warranty for cutting peoples fingers open. My steering wheel is peeling. The cloth seats grab ahold of lint better than a lint brush. They have problems with the 5.3 with AFM burning oil. The list goes on and on.

MDTahoe I really appreciate your input. I am not sure of the newer Tahoe's issues my 2006 was the last year of its style and other than the lights for buttons on the steering wheel I can't really complain. I look forward to hearing from others. Thank You!

I had a 2008 Z71 Tahoe but traded it in on a Lincoln MKX. That was a big mistake. It seemed that I was at the dealers every week getting something adjusted. It came with Ford's MyTouch for navigation and entertainment. It was a total disaster. I'm a gadget geek and I like pushing buttons and touch screen stuff, but this system drove me absolutely crazy! It never seemed to recognize my touch so I could never know when an activity was going to work not. Very distracting while driving down the road. I test drove a Ford Expedition (2012) and the nav screen seemed awful small.

With the number of miles you got on your 2006 Tahoe, I think you would be an expert on the longevity of a Tahoe. My 2008 Tahoe looked brand new when I traded it. I now have a 2012 LTZ Tahoe that I plan to keep for a very long time.

I have had 6 nbs tahoes and suburbans. Aside from the 2007 suburban, I have had no real problems. I had a chromed handle replaced. Plastic body panel replaced. On my 2012 I had half a dozen stupid problems that were fixed but should never have been there. I think overall the trucks are of good quality and trust them with the safety of my family and myself.

I appreciate the input. Yes I have always been a Chevy fan since my parents gave me my first ride in high school (1987 Suburban) and I still see that sucker around town here. The only reason we were considering an Expedition was because of the extra room in the third row, we also liked how all the seats can all fold down flush. I have just been skeptical going to an Expedition since all of my previous Suburbans and present Tahoe have never let me down.

Thanks for your helpful info. I too trust them.... I messed up by giving the wife an option...I should have just kept it simple and told her "TAHOE" ha ha

Its hit or miss, some love them some hate them....I too have the peeling steering wheel but have been spared the cracked dash and the door handles of death...
I have yet to have to add any oil between servicing of 8k miles, and I have the 5.3L thou some have reported having to add up to a quart every 1k miles

Suggest you go check out some Ford forums for Expedition problems.

I personally find Ford's to be EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I LOVE my '12 Tahoe.
