Default Code PO442 and PO455

First, thanks to the posts before mine. 07 suburban w/5.3. Check engine came on and Autozone pulled the PO442 and PO455 codes. My Fuel tank evap control is above the spare tire, towards the front. I disconnected the electric and the breather hose running up towards the gas filler neck and dumped out water while figuring out how to disconnect the shrink hose from it to the black plastic container near the back of the fuel tank. The local chevy dealer (Criswell in Gaithersburg, MD) wanted $178 for part #19207763. I thought I was at the BMW dealership. I don't mind a little bit of a premium, but I had seen it on getgmparts.com for $78. It wasn't a wasted trip because the mechanic on duty told me this was my problem given the water pouring out. Five days later, Amazon delivered the two piece replacement 'kit'. One evap control and a new end for the breather tube. I connected the evap control to the container near the fuel tank using 5/8" heater hose. I didn't run the breather to over the trans. I again used 5/8" heater hose and ran it towards the rear and stuffed it into a frame cavity that looked like it didn't get wet. I hope it doesn't. I cleared the code by disconnecting the battery. It's been two days. I'll update, if the code comes back.

Default Another one.....

So it seems that I too have fallen victim to the evil P0449 code. So after all the post and replys to it have helped me out so I went to my local Chevy dealer and picked up the part. It came as the WHOLE unit and the part guy was telling me that it call for a NEW harness part # 19257603(as if the connectors are different). My question is DO I NEED THIS HARNESS or is the factory one compatable with the new evap canister?? A swift answer would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The electrical connection on the evap control that I bought, part #19207763, was exactly the same as the part it replaced. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the feed back just wanted to know so it wasn't a PROBLEM once I got the old one off. My part number is diff. however mine is #20995472 but i would suspect that GM wouldn't have a diff. hook up(or at least I hope). Planning on doing mine this sat. Will update as to how the prosses goes and such. Thank everyone on here. This is DEF. one of THE BEST forums I have EVER experienced. Thank all for making this such a nice environment.

Default Follow up on Evap Canister

Can someone guide me in the right direction of an online site that sells this part exactly for my 07? I have no clue on how to work on vehicles so I want to make sure I get the right part and fix this issue before I take it on road trips. Thanks in advance.
I replaced my evap canister that I ordered from a dealer in NC. The only problem was the tube that ran up to the area where the gas is put in was different than what was shipped to me. I cut the tube and stuffed it in the tube that is already on the truck and taped it (probably not a good idea but in this Texas heat of 100+, it was freaking hot at 10 am). Disconnected the battery and the light has not come on yet. This was done on Aug 5 and still no light. I drive the truck once a week so I am still monitoring the light. My Onstar Diagnostic says I still have an issue but the last time Onstar ran the diagnostic was that same day prior to me replacing the canister.

mooredre,

You might want to reconsider hooking up to the existing vent line that is zip-tied to and follows the fuel line up to the filler neck. The mechanic told me that that line was the problem. It was supposed provide a dry, vent line, but the location and the cap on it catch the water thrown up there from the left rear tire and the water runs into the new canister. That was the reason mine had water in it and water kills it.

So I'm at the dealer with my 08 Tahoe check engine light on. P0449 code EVAP vent valve needs to replace. I looked up EPA, which states EVAP system and related parts covered under warranty up to 80,000 miles or 8 years. So can someone please explain to me why is the EVAP canister vent or vent valve NOT covered under this same warranty. It seem to me if it is an emission related part then it should fall under the same policy.

GM the ball is in your court, please explain.

They otta work with you. I bought a used Ford several years ago for my Niece with an extended drive train warrenty. Within 2 months the clutch went out. Took it back to dealer, "not covered", I asked what good that extended drive train warrenty I bought was good for? Anyway the dealer split the cost to replace the clutch with me, best I could do.
