Default I'm in a bit of shock at my inside passenger side door handle...

My 15 year old was opening the door to go retrieve his hockey bag in the back of the Tahoe when he lets out a scream and I look over to see his hand all bloody. The inside chrome looking handle has a chrome coating that split off of it at the top and sliced his hand easily since it's basically a razor edge.

Any advice on this little not so nicely manufactured item? My handle on the drivers side doesn't look in much better condition. It's a 2007 so I'm curious what you guys think I should do? I bought the extended GM warranty but not ever sure something like this is on it.

I have 2007 Avalance LT1 which is the same as Tahoe and Suburban. My driver side inside door handle, chrome came off little bit and made it look like boxer knife. I was careful with it and I am planning to take it to the dealership to have them correct it. My wife had 2000 300M same problem. I wasnt sure if they used the same supplier. Its BAD to have a fake chrome on the inside handles on a $35K vehicle.I am very sure many will return to dealership for replacement. I am not sure if they upgraded into a better ones. Hope ur kid is ok. Regards

I have the same problem with my LTZ Tahoe andthe passenger inside door handle. The way I found out was by actually catching a splinter of crap chrome in my hand. I am planning to take it to the dealer within the next week or so for a couple of things. I will post the outcome for the rest of you guys. I have extensive experience with dealing with dealerships and I would image that since this is a manufacturer's defect, it will be replaced with a new handle, but I just wonder if it will happen again. It is quite disheartening that a$55K truck is having this problem. Makes you wonder about the rest of the vehicle.

Same thing with me. Driver door handle was peeling and was replaced by my dealer. The service manager told me this has been a common problem.

My son's ok. Taped it up and didn't seem to bleed much later...

The build on the car is 03/06 made in Arlington, TX.

Thanks...

Thanks. Mine was 5/06 in Janesville, WI. I noticed when I first got mine that the mold parting line was very pronounced on the handles which basically means besides getting a raised ridge that will cause the chrome plating to wear off and do what yours did and that the supplier went with a cheap, poorly machined mold. The parting line should be indiscernible.

There's a place for plastic on vehicles, just not on functional parts.

Glad your son's OK.

Took it in the dealer this morning. They changedboth sidesunder warranty. I asked if I found some aftermarket ones could they change them next time I was in. They said they were prohibited from putting anything but factory parts on it.

Thanks for all the comments... G..
