Instrument cluster backlighting
I am tired of waiting for GM to fix the issue of the 2007 instrument panel not having the backlighting come on when the vehicle is started. They obviously know they had a problem as the 2008's have the lighting come on automatically with the ignition as do many other vehicles. Question, does anybody know which wire and where it might be located for the backlighting so I can tap it into the ignition or run circuit??
Thanks in advance for any help.

ZX was going to let me know if GM came out with a fix for this but they have not to my knowledge as I have contacted customer service at GM and all they said was "sorry" there is no fix for this and sent me two free dealer oil changes. I would rather get this problem resolved than free oil changes as to me it is a dangerous situation spending too much time squinting at an unlit instrument panel. One of you GM guru's should be able to tell me/us which wire and its location that feeds the backlighting on the panel so we can do this ourselves, if we choose to do so at our own risk. I drove my sons Lexus SUV for 3 weeks while they were in Europe and that vehicle automatically turns on the backlighting when the car is started and a beautiful lit panel it is!
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is actually its own module, there is no wire that can be spliced that will turn on the instrument backlighting the lighting is controlled internally via the GM-Lan Bus.
An updated software calibration will have to be written to accomplish this and currently even though it is an easy thing to do the implementation of such an update is not nearly as easy as it would require the reprogramming of the IPC which is technical and time consuming and to date GM has not received enough owner feedback to warrant the cost associated with such an product enhancement.
My recommendation for now is that on the days where ambient day light is creating a glare simply turn on your park lights which will turn the instrument backlighting on as well.

ki4izq you are correct. In many vehicles instrument cluster lights do not come on during the day. However 2007 tahoes need them on in order to see them in cloudy days. This is dangerous as genestoy indicated.
ZX I already have requested GMfor a fix to instrument cluster backlighting issue.Turning on the parking lights will turn off the DRLs and dims the radio. Now I do not see the radio in the day anymore. Also where I live it is not legal to drive with parking lights on.
I am thinking about changing my guage faces to white ones. I have seen some on eBay.

i still dont see the need... whats so important about viewing the cluster so intently...
i rarelylook at mine... just a causal glance every now and then...
oh well, "to each their own...."

The big deal is that under certain lighting conditions such as low sun angle or a cloudy day, looking at the IP is like staring into the mouth of a cave. [
