I currently drive a I35 (Maxima), prior to this I owned an 03 Oldsmobile Aurora. Im looking to switch back to GM with hope that I will not encounter the same problems that I did with the Aurora since I just cant get used to the change from gm air to basic nissan suspension, plus the I-35 comes with a few problems as well(though not as bad as the Aurora). The Old's drove exactly like a Cadillac, but randomly shifted rough, ran hot, and had an intermediate starting problem. As we all know all vehicles's come with problems, but some are more tolerable. Just looking for advice on choosing between a tahoe or suburban, I prefer 07 threw 14 models. If anyone could give me feedback on the most common problems, or reliability regarding the two, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies.

 

Well Tahoe and Suburban are so similar, except for extra space in the rear. Also consider the GMC equivalents of Yukon and Yukon XL and Denali, again practically identical.

Mrs. Cusser tows a horse trailer so likes the 6.0 engine and all wheel drive of her 2005 Yukon XL Denali, over 210K on that.

 

Personally I would steer clear of the 08-10 models. I believe those are the first years of AFM and lifter issues and oil consumption are common. I traded an ‘09 for a ‘17 and couldn’t be happier. They still have AFM but supposedly most of the issues are fixed after ‘11 or ‘12

 

I'll simply comment on the size difference. "Damn, I wish I'd gotten the smaller Tahoe instead of the Suburban." Said no Suburban owner. Ever.

However I do know a family of 4 (2 kids) and they love the Tahoe. The 3rd row can always be “down” essentially similar storage to the Burb then..

 

I would avoid the 07 altogether and probably 08-10. I tow with my Suburban so I prefer the extra length over the Tahoe. For the money a 9th gen (1999.5 - 2006) Tahoe/Suburban can be a good vehicle at a good price.

 

Wow i like the design of that generation the best, besides they are affordable now since some are 12 years old. I have seen some for 8000.. The one I have been looking at is a 09 Tahoe Ltz, its 11000 now, should be cheaper next year since the same suv was 15000 6 months ago. Does this generation have the Cadillac like ride?

 

I see, So its looks like I should look towards 2011 and later because of lifter issues. I like the design of the engines as well, they look much easier to work on.
One thing that i have found hard to find is a Tahoe or a Suburban Ltz without the paint missing on the left button below the nav screen, thats the only thing that looks tacky. It wouldn't surprise me if they are asking more for the ones with buttons in tact because its so rare.

 

I'm not really worried about the size, more so the difference in suspension, and 4x4 on both models.
