Default Need new engine

Gents,

I have a 200o Hoe Limited (5.7) with 169,000. I repalced the lower intake gaskets and a few weeks later I beleive I blew the head gaskets. The engine is pushing the coolant out through the expansion tank, has misfiring on all cylunders.

Since I tow a 7x12 tandom axel trailer with her over long distances I figure its best to replace the motor. I would like to increase HP to around 350 at the wheels and have a nice tq curve for towing with around 380-40o tq.

Any suggestions?

I dont want to spend the $4500 for it...anything closed to $2000-$2500?? That and I read that the 383 only gains ypu 14hp unless you upgrade the exhaust and injectors.

Your looking at almost 3000 for a stock remanufactured engine. 350 HP cost lots more. Unless you buy something used but you never know how long that will last. Call a machine shop and find out what it will cost to redo your engine with maybe a upgraded cam and some head work. I think that will be the least expensive route for more power. You may only get a 1 year 12,000 warranty that way though. Keep in mind that a new motor from the dealer comes with a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty honored at every GM dealer regardless of who installed it. That is parts and labor. Unless you want to spend some major money and build one bad a** super fast TRUCK I would consider the warranty more important than a few extra HP.

I read the warranty is only valid if GM installs, I had planned to install myself. My best friend is a former mechanic. I want the extra power for towing, no racing. Trying to keep the limited as stock as possible since they only made a little under 9,000 of them. Not that I ever expect it to become the "must have Hoe" but I like the looks.

Any companies I should look at?

IMO look into replacing the entire engine with the 6.0L.

I tow about 5,000lbs with it a couple of times a year but its a 1600 mile round trip each time. I never had an issue towing on the stock motor but I figure if I have to replace the motor I should increase the power to make towing easier...that and hoping a little extra tq will help with the mpg on the highway, 9 mpg sucks, I would be happy with 12mpg.

I cant seem to find a 383 that has vortec heads on it as I am not sure if the head gaskets are blown or the if the heads cracked. I am under the impression the stock 350 makes 330hp/380tq which is why I was aiming for 400 tq or more without breaking the bank.

Anyone got any links to a motor that will work. I guess I can spend around $3500 for the crate motor minus intake.

I would say replace it with a crate stock motor and change the gears to 4:11. You will have no problem towing with that. My 04 burb has the 5.3 and only has 3:73 gears and 295hp and I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer with no problems. My guess your old motor was just tired. The new stock one with have the added power you need.
