Default Suburban 2001 5.3L oil pump replacement

I'm in the middle of doing an oil pump replacement on my 2001 Suburban 5.3L with just over 400,000 miles. My question is about the infamous oil pick up tube flange that is purposely put on the hard side to get to, forcing you to remove the oil pan. I have the pan off and just starting to get it back together, and I'm contemplating reversing the flange to the opposite side, in case I have to remove the oil pump in the future. I've seen lots of people on you tube doing this and I'm wondering if anyone has found any problems with it. The oil pump has two mounting holes, but the pick up tube only has a one hole flange, even the new pick up tube has the same one hole flange. It makes you wonder why Chevy went to such effort to make it hard to work on. In other words, is there a good reason for the side it bolts to, or is Chevy just messing with us?
