I am getting ready to remove the 3rd row of seating and install a 15 inch sub. I am wondering what your thoughts are on a larger, flatter, thinner box versus a more square box. I have read elsewhere that pointing the sub up and the port towards the rear of the vehicle is the best way to do it, but if I go sealed do I just point it up?

Anyways, I want to keep using the room in the back as much as possible, and it is a 15.

There's several audiophiles here that can probably give you some tips.

 

Have you considered a custom box that can be placed inside therear corner section (driver's side)? I'm notsure if you can get a 15" but the audio shop I went to told me I could get a 12" in there.

 

I've seen several posts on exactly that here and other forums. It'll only work if you don't have a power liftgate tho.

 

I personally think a 15" is too much and if you wanna keep your 3rd row seats in you can always build a sealed box so you dont need to build a big box. As to the sub firing its good to have it facing the rear hatch so it has something tobounce off of. I built a sealed box for my
jl 10w6 and it hits real nice, if i turn the gain up it is rediculous...

 

In my opinion...I agree with xclusive that a 15" is too much. If you have ever had subs in an SUV a 10" or 12" enclosure sealed or not provides more than enough bass. I would save my money on purchasing the 15" and concentrate on providing enough watts to power the speaker.

 

I was trying to do some searching on this, Mary or anyone else have some info on a custom box for a 10 or 12in , I did a brief check of the forum and on the web but didnt find anything that jumped out at me. I was hoping by now that someone was mass producing a box...

 

what type of sub will you use? that is very important to know so you know how much air sapce it needs.

The local shop in my area was going to custom-fab a box for me because I did not want to take up any space in the cargo area. However, Crutchfield carries a custom sub enclosure that will fit in the center console.

 

Thanks mary. I was checking out Crutchfield and I didnt see a rear sub box only the one for the console, guessing that is the one that you are refering too. They also have several powered sub options with mix reviews on performace in SUV's.
