Tracker1989-2004
This compact SUV proved itself to be a fine ecnomical vehicle, good for making its way along any type of surface. Platform: CAMI (Suzuki)
Hello,
I have a 2003 tracker with v6 engine and when I drive my SUV for about 20-30 minutes it stalls when I am at a light or stop sign. It starts up again no problem but stalls again when at a light or stop sign. Any suggestions? Thanks all
Thanks L84sky. Was wondering if the egr valve is fairly easy to remove and clean. I know it's underneath the intake collector. Can I take the back intake collector of without actually taking everything off and clean it?Thanks

I would try to isolate the problem before I pulled the EGR.
The EGR tube shown above feeds exhaust gas up to the intake collector. I would use the gasket between the EGR tube and the exhaust manifold as a pattern for a thin metal blocking plate. Install the blocking plate and drive the car. If the stalling problem persists the EGR is not the issue. If the car operates normally you can be pretty confident the EGR needs to be replaced.

Hello L84sky,
I will try it and give an update. It does drive normally but after about 30 minutes and stopped at a light it stalls but starts up no problem. I don't drive it often and this started about 2 weeks ago when I decided to drive it to work about 45 miles.Like I said it only stalls after about a 30 minute drive. Thanks again
Blocking the EGR tube will cause the combustion chamber temperatures to increase. Only do this for testing the EGR operation. It is not a permanent fix.

OK thanks. How long should I run the vehicle? It does run fine for about 30 minutes and then It wants to die or it dies when stopped.
The higher combustion temperatures will not hurt the engine but will increase the production of NOx emissions. You can drive the car as long as you need to for troubleshooting.
Quick update. Blocked off the tube to the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve and drove it for a few days. It's not the EGR valve as it stalled when at a red light. It's something else. I also remembered a few years ago, I think that I had this same problem, can't really remember. I posted it here on this forum about changing the camshaft position sensor because I had stripped the star bolt on the bottom of the sensor. Could it be the camshaft sensor? A reply is much appreciated.
