Default start problem

Every once in awhile when I try to start the van . I turn the key until the engine sounds like it cranked, but then the starter make a noise like the starter stayed ingaged and it will turn off. All this happen with a second or two. Pretty weird as I've never had a car do this.

Year, mileage, did you buy it new? Original starter?
You mean it sounds like the starter stays engaged and then the engine turns off, did the engine start?

It's a 2006, I bought it with 47k.but has 62k now. Sometime it starts just find, other times it sound like the starter stays engage with no engine start and other times the engine starts briefly then shuts down.

Not sure what your describing; certain model years had loose connections at the starter. The typical symptoms would be intermitent no cranking...or battery light on...or turn the key and would hear a single click then all power would go out.

You can start by checking the battery and starter connections, then check voltage at both. If you have some help, slide under or put the van on ramps, chock the wheels (ie be very careful) and check voltage while someone cranks the van in park. Just in case you're getting voltage drop. But it sounds like the starter is going...

I've visually checked all that has been mention. The more it does it the more it sounds like the starter is hanging. doesn't disengages after start. I'll remove the starter and see if I can see anything,I'll be buying a new starter in my near future.

If you can, I'd suggest a new one over reman. Seems like they're getting harder to find at auto stores though. I'd stay away from Autozone remans if at all possible...

I don't buy reman. anymore. In some store they cost almost as much as new one. Not worth it to me.They will replace it it goes bad,but you still stuck with the labor and possibly being stranded, not to mention the wife pleasant 2 cents worth of options.
