2019 Chevrolet Silverado RST

2019 Chevrolet Silverado gains new trims and capabilities, loses a few hundred pounds and a few hundred off the sticker.

The Chevrolet Silverado is already America’s hardest-working, hardest-playing pickup truck. What more could you do to make it better (aside from creating a Sirius XM channel playing nothing but Bob Seger and John Mellencamp)? Chevy has a few ideas.

The bow-tied automaker unveiled the 2019 edition of the Silverado Chevy VP Brian Sweeney says will offer “more interior and cargo room, higher towing and payload capabilities and a lower starting at MSRP” than the 2018 model.

The 2019 LT crew cab model, for example, will now cost $700 less than it did in 2018. It will also gain a new 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four as standard, which is one hell of a unit. The little engine that could puts out 310 horses and 348 lb-ft of torque through a Hydra-Matic eight-speed automatic designed for smoother shifts. Active aero and stop-start, combined with the turbo-four and eight-speed, will all keep the fuel tank fuller longer.

For street-fighting men and women, the new-for-2019 RST trim gives the LT street cred with body-color trim, full LED lighting, and 22-inch wheels. And while the aforementioned turbo-four is tough enough, the RST can go hard with a 5.3-liter V8 ready with 355 horses and 385 lb-ft of torque on tap. Come early 2019, though, you’ll also have a three-liter Duramax turbo-diesel and 10-speed auto to play with on the RST, too.

2019 Silverado Work Truck

Whether you opt for the shovel-ready Work Truck, the trail-conquering Trail Boss, or the oil baron-approved High Country, the Silverado you choose will be bigger and taller all around than the 2018 edition, including the 69.2 cubic feet of cargo room in the truck’s short bed, which bests the Ford F-150’s standard bed by miles. Despite the size increase, the Silverado will also weigh 450 pounds less than the 2018 edition, due to technology in crafting and material mixing. We can’t wait for the 2019 Silverado to hit the showrooms.
