Silverado Preferred by F-150 Owners. No Surprise to Us!

A new Chevy ad shows what we already know: Ford can’t compete.

Let’s talk about the Cult of Ford. For years, people have made truck-buying decisions based on a name. Most of the time, these people aren’t real truck people. They’re just buying what they think everyone else has. That’s a problem, and with the new Silverado ad, Chevy shows that once you eliminate the name brand from the equation, the decision is clear.

Similar to other recent Chevy ads, this starts with the guy you’ve seen in all the ads before bringing some F-150 owners a new truck to take a look at. The truck is disguised with black fabric all around it, and no brand identification. Actually, that’s not completely true because the front grille is obviously made to look reminiscent of the F-150. So, when these F-150 “diehards” take a look at this new truck, and the new features, they’re sold and think it’s the greatest truck ever. Just like we’ve seen in the recent Chevy ads, the veil is lifted, and the people are shown that the truck is actually a new Silverado.

Chevy Silverado grille reveal

What this shows is these people really only buy an F-150 because it’s an F-150. When you put the Silverado and the F-150 side-by-side, and you point out things like the all-steel truck bed and built-in step in the bumper that the Silverado has, an unbiased opinion is that the Silverado is the clear choice. This ad doesn’t even go into the nitty gritty to talk about all the other ways that the Silverado bests the F-150. Reliability and dependability, towing capacity, fuel economy, and pure power all lean in the Silverado’s favor.

As one person in the ad says, ‘[The Silverado] puts my Ford to shame.’

Finally, this ad inadvertently shows one other major advantage: style. When they peel back that pseudo-F-150 grille to reveal the Silverado, the contrast is stark. The Silverado’s style just screams premium compared to the F-150. So, not only are you getting a better quality truck in almost every conceivable measure but you’re also getting a truck that will turn more heads and looks like a million bucks.

As one person in the ad says, “[The Silverado] puts my Ford to shame.”
