Wicked Custom 1956 Chevy 3100 Features 572 Cubic Inches Underhood
A no-expenses spared redo has this 1956 Chevy 3100 looking great, but it’s also packing serious heat with its massive big block.
There are many ages-old sayings in the automotive world, but few that are more memorable than the old “there’s no replacement for displacement.” Of course, this particular phrase has largely been proven wrong in recent years as we’ve seen smaller – and even, gasp, electric – motors make incredible power, rivaling even the biggest of big blocks out there. But to us, there’s still noting quite like a monstrous motor, especially when its stuffed under the hood of a gorgeous custom classic truck like this 1956 Chevy 3100 set to be auctioned off at Mecum’s Glendale, Arizona sale next month.
This 1956 Chevy 3100 doesn’t just have any old big block under its hood either, but rather, a massive 572 cubic-inch V8. The auction listing doesn’t specify output, but GM does sell this same sized engine in crate form, and it cranks out an easy 727 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque in that guise – not too shabby by any account. In this case, the big V8 is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, sending massive amounts of power to the rear wheels.
Aside from a Holley Sniper fuel injection setup, the engine bay of this ’56 Chevy is dressed to impress with an aluminum radiator, serpentine belt conversion, and other brightwork, while a custom chassis lies underneath with a RideTech air ride suspension that makes it drivable despite being super low to the ground. Power steering and four-wheel power disc brakes make the vintage pickup drive more like a new one, too.
Looking inside and out, it’s pretty clear that this 1956 Chevy 3100 was treated to a no-expenses spared frame-off redo, and it has accumulated just 1,500 miles since that process was completed. On the outside, the vintage hauler looks amazing in Jet Black with a red-stained wood bed, along with a set of modern wheels filling up the fat fenders. Inside the cabin, you’ll find a completely redone red interior with a Vintage Air HVAC setup, double diamond-stitched bucket seats, a center console, a tilt steering column, and Auto Meter gauges.
This truly stunning Bow Tie pickup is clearly a great find, as well as an amazing, top quality build. The only question left to answer is, how much is it worth to someone? Personally, we’d wager a lot, but we’ll have to wait a few weeks to find out.
