my brother-in-law called me and has an 08 silverado 5.3 1500 truck. and it has a front spring perch mount that is rusting thru. i looked all the spots i know and can not find the part or any YouTube that show how to fix that with a repair kit. if i can't find any info i guess my best bet will be to remove the bolt and weld a hardened washer into place and add some extra 12ga to help reinforce it.
maybe some here has a fix or may knows of a repair kit or even a youtube that has pointers. when i enter 08 silverado rear spring front mount repair i get nothing. lots of rear mounts and shackles but no front mounts or if you call them perches. someone here has some ideas also. thanks bp.
ok lets see if they get posted. tomorrow i'm going to try and weld a hardened washer into the spot the section has rusted out. or just fab in some 12ga. and see how it goes. i did find some of these on ebay but not for this truck. they said 1500 silverado but when i entered the info it came up and said not compatible. i have not seen this first hand and he said they are welded onto the frame so that is why i asked to see if anyone knows of a repair kit for this type of repair. thanks
that would be nice. but i'm used to field expediency repairs. so when i get it in my grubby hands it looks like i will have to lower the front of the springs and just fab in something to reinforce that area. what i may wind up doing is just getting some new mounts and fab them to fit. and like you say weld them into place. it has been years since i used my buzzbox so i guess i get to see if i cans till stick weld with that. i may even get some rear mounts and turn them upside down and weld them into place. if theya re to wide just fill in with washers. to bad they do not have a repair kit for this end. thanks bp.
ok for anyone interested. today o got the truck in the garage and it was bad. both sides were rusted but the drivers side was worse. so i fabbed up some 10 ga metal around the outside over the stud and then welded some in on the spring side to fill in the rot that was there. not a real bad job but for the 100 deg heat index i had to deal with and my old mussels are not used to the bending and twisting anymore so now i'm a sore puppy.
here are some photos weld was a wire feed look bad but i did have good penetration. you see the flux. but if anyone has to do this maybe this will be some help. can't say how long this will last and he may have to find some aftermarket ford or dodge bolt in mounts and we will them make them fit. but we will see how these hold up first
thanks.

so it looks like my repair did not hold up. i was not sure if it would or not. so has anyone fixed this before? i think i did some checking and found that ford had brackets that were bolt on brackets and i could remover these and bolt the ford brackets in place of these. so has anyone done this? i need to find out how wide the springs are and i do not have the truck here. i asked him to get me that info but lrod only knows if he will be able to or not. so maybe some here can assist in this repair. thanks
ok i will have to check into that? i did do some online checks and the parts spring place said they do not have parts for this repair. and they said about the same thing. go to a junkyard and have them cut the frame and then weld that into place. i have been doing some looking for something that i can bolt into place but it is slim pickings for sure. i did find something on ebay from tom's auto parts and that kind of looks like it is a unit that welds into place.
here is a link to the ebay one, take a peek if you would and tell me what you think about getting these and welding them into place? https://www.ebay.com/itm/224493663591 other wise i guess i will see if i can find one in a junk yard. thanks
as long as the dimensions are correct....get a big mig welder. if you stick weld it....no down welds...up only. you can down weld with a mig. small flux core welders are junk. if you flux core get a big one.
