Default Dome and map lights don't turn off

I have a 2009 extended cab Silverado in which the dome and map lights don't turn off when they are supposed to. It is to the point that it is fully draining the battery. Eventually they go off presumably by the control that shuts off electrical to prevent totally draining the battery if something is left on. If anyone has had this problem, I would like to know what was done to resolve it. If anyone has a link to a schematic for my truck, that would greatly help me solve this problem. Thanks to all who can help with this problem.

I wish it were that simple. The first thing I tried was rotating the headlight switch. Then I tried pushing the button next to the headlight switch in and out. Neither did anything to resolve the problem. Does anyone know if the dealer's OBD tool could pinpoint the problem? I would still like to find a copy of the schematics that covers the dome and map lights. If I had that, I'm sure I could find the problem. Thanks for the reply.

You can try a code reader, but I think you need an Error Code to appear (maybe)
Maybe one of the light switches or sensors in one of the doors is bad, & it thinks the door is still openm even when its shut.
your doors get water pouring down the windows, & into the door panels, & that causes problems, of course.
my dad says maybe your doors are out of alignment, causing a switch to not make contact...
or a ground wire for one of your door switches is shorting, causing the lights to stay on...

Might be worth replacing the driver’s side door switch mounted near the door hinge since it’s the one that gets thousands of cycles. Check You Tube to see if you can find a video on it.

I stopped by my dealer today and asked if a code reader could pinpoint the problem and was told it couldn't. They said it would have to be old fashioned trouble shooting. I asked if I could get the schematics and I finally got them. After examining them, I have a good idea where the problem is: When I removed the door panel to replace the door lock module, the harness feeding the switch module on the arm rest was stretched fairly tight. I believe one of the plugs going to the switch module may have been pulled partially off. Tomorrow I will check out that possibility and get back to you.

I pulled the arm rest switch panel assembly out and inspected all the wires, jacks and cleaned all contacts and put it all back together and the problem remains. After viewing the schematics, it looks like the dome lights are controlled by the body control module (BCM). It looks like I will have to take it to my dealer for repair because there isn't any information on trouble shooting a BCM, but will look on youtube first. The BCM is $154, exchange, from Rock Auto and if for some reason it isn't that, I don't want to risk loosing $154. I wonder if the OBD tool can trouble shoot a BCM. 69impalaconvharv

Different model years, but may be of help - not sure. See the below thread that I just posted my experience with almost the same exact problems...

Hopefully you got your vehicle back to working properly.

Default Dome and map lights don't turn off

I finally gave up and took it to my dealer. They hooked up their scan tool and got it turned off. It was a broken wire in a harness. I am not exactly sure where, but it cost me almost $96. I am glad the d#@mn thing is finally off! Thanks to all who tried to help with this problem.
